Where it all started

Suzuki opens the Suzuki Loom Works in the small coastal town of Hamamatsu, Shizuoka Prefecture, Japan. The new factory makes looms for the huge cotton industry in Japan and Michio's intention is simple: to build better, more ergonomic weaving machines than anything that is currently available. Suzuki builds his first motorized bike, the 'Power Free'. It is designed to be cheap and easy to maintain and uses a 36cc two-stroke engine attached to the frame of a conventional bicycle

Historical moments

Suzuki has a long history and below we have listed some points.

  • Barry Sheene wins his, and Suzuki's, first 500cc world title on the RG500.
  • The legendary bike conquered the six best places in the championship.
  • The GS750 - the first big four-cylinder bike from Suzuki
  • Italian Marco Lucchinelli wins the 500cc world championship on a RG500.
  • Suzuki amazes the cycling world with its futuristic GSX1100S Katana. The aggressive design and excellent performance of the bike make it a huge sales success.

Suzukis succes

The bicycle that has to change the face of motorcycling arrives. Suzuki's GSX-R750 will always be remembered as the first real race replica machine. With an output of 100 hp and a weight of 176 kg, it created an entirely new category of performance bikes. Kevin Schwantz wins the world championship 500cc on the RGV-500 and ensures that his name will always be remembered among the all-time greats.

Suzuki again with the unveiling of the GSX1300R Hayabusa. The ultimate 1298cc liquid-cooled DOHC in-line 4-cylinder engine. The most striking features of the Hayabusa were the aerodynamic design and the excellent balance between the engine performance and the driving characteristics in a wide speed range on the road. The total production of the GSX-R series is 1 million pieces. Since its introduction in 1985, the name GSX-R has become synonymous with high performance sports bikes.
